Making It In LA--The Life of a Communications Teacher
by Cristina and Rayyan
The average person does not expect to meet someone who has had the ability to work with famous celebrities in the city where the Entertainment Industry thrives; LA. Yaniv Aronson, a Communications teacher at BU and a Film class teacher in Philadelphia, shares stories and advice that leave listeners in awe and utter fascination.
Aronson's passion for film stemmed from a Film class he took in high school, and from that day forth, he knew it was what he wanted to do. This passion has lead him to work extensively in areas of Film and Communications; when he's not teaching classes, he's obtaining his Graduate degree, or working on documentaries and short films.
When asked how he is able to manage his time effectively, Aronson simply said "Whatever is due becomes a priority," and that teaching at Boston University’s Summer Challenge was his “first time for a break, not having school", as he was, along with his students, on summer vacation.
Aronson's wide spectrum of experience has given him the ability to dish out helpful advice for aspiring filmmakers, or those who are interested in pursuing a career in the field of Entertainment.
“You have to take a screenwriting class,” he said. In his experience, having a teacher is often times better than self teaching, as someone who becomes a good writer can eventually gain good funding. “I was never really good at Math or Science,” he added “I was always more on the creative side. My favorite classes were English and Video.” (I’m not sure what his exact quote was)

As well as having experience in the field, he has also worked with celebrities such as Gwen Stefani, Eva Longoria, Scarlett Johansson, and Eva Mendes, and met with countless others. When asked if the celebrities he met were stuck up, he said “Some are, some aren’t,” and just like with people, some were down-to-earth, while others were very intimidating in their manner. “So it just depends on the person,” he says.
“For BU, I travelled to Australia and got to see a private concert for Carrie Underwood and got to hang out with her,” he says. Working in this field has given him numerous opportunities throughout his career that have helped him evolve as a person, a filmmaker, a production coordinator, and a teacher.
“It’s always good to evolve, it keeps you happy,” he says. He’s lived in Israel, Rhode Island, Santa Monica, Sydney, and Tasmania, working on countless projects in order to keep his passion for Film and Entertainment alive.
